How It Works:
Testing Protocols & Methodology
The Gold Standard in
Youth Athletic Evaluation
Where Precision Meets Potential.
At MPI, we don’t guess, we measure. Our testing methodology is built on the three foundational pillars of elite athleticism: Speed, Power, and Agility. Every test is carefully engineered, scientifically validated, and directly tied to real-world sports performance. These aren’t gimmicks or highlight drills. They are objective, repeatable measurements that unlock insight, giving athletes a clear picture of where they stand, where they can improve, and how they stack up against the competition.

Speed
Acceleration. Mechanics. Game-Breaking Speed.
Speed wins. Whether it’s the first step or the full sprint,
MPI’s speed assessments are designed to reveal the athletes
who can separate, chase, and close faster than the rest.
10-Yard dash
Measures: First-step explosiveness and short-range acceleration.
Why It Matters: Elite movement starts at zero. This test captures how quickly an athlete can generate force and get up to speed, critical for winning the first step.
Training Focus: Start mechanics, ground contact time, fast-twitch activation.
Game Impact: Beating defenders off the whistle, explosive reactions, closing space instantly.
40-Yard Dash
Measures: Full acceleration profile and top-end sprint speed.
Why It Matters: The universal language of speed. A benchmark used by scouts and coaches to identify raw velocity and sprint sustainability.
Training Focus: Acceleration phase, transition mechanics, speed endurance.
Game Impact: Outrunning pursuit. Open-field dominance. Creating separation that wins games.
3/4 Court Sprint (75 ft)
Measures: Short-burst speed and stride efficiency.
Why It Matters: Mimics real in-game sprint zones. Reveals whether an athlete can maintain mechanics and velocity across game-realistic distances.
Training Focus: Lower-body power, stride turnover, sprint form.
Game Impact: Breakaways. Chase downs. Recovering with purpose.
Power
Explosiveness. Strength. Output.
Power is the foundation of dominance. MPI’s power tests
identify athletes who can explode, elevate, and deliver
force—vertically, horizontally, and repeatedly.
Explosiveness. Strength. Output.
Power is the foundation of dominance. MPI’s power tests identify athletes who can explode, elevate, and deliver force vertically, horizontally, and repeatedly.
Vertical Jump
Measures: Peak vertical explosiveness.
Why It Matters: One of the purest indicators of lower-body power and athletic potential.
Training Focus: Concentric power, plyometrics, posterior chain development.
Game Impact: Rebounding, puck battles, aerial contests, first-step quickness.
Broad Jump
Measures: Ground-force projection and horizontal power.
Why It Matters: Demonstrates how well an athlete can transfer strength into motion—key for sprint starts and momentum generation.
Training Focus: Glute and hamstring drive, full-body sequencing, landing control.
Game Impact: Launch explosiveness, acceleration from a dead stop, and power transitions.
Pushups
Measures: Muscular endurance and core stability.
Why It Matters: Gauges upper-body resilience and fatigue resistance—under tension, under pressure.
Training Focus: Shoulder stability, trunk control, high-rep efficiency.
Game Impact: Sustained effort during high-contact sequences, recovery under fatigue, physicality that holds up.
Agility
Control. Change of Direction. Reactive Movement.
Agility is the secret weapon behind great defenders, elusive
attackers, and elite all-around movement. These tests showcase
who can control their body, shift gears, and redirect
momentum—on command.
5-10-5 Shuttle (ProAgility)
Measures: Lateral acceleration, redirection, and stop-start control.
Why It Matters: Captures an athlete’s ability to plant, change direction, and explode—fast.
Training Focus: Transition speed, footwork, trunk rotation.
Game Impact: Man-to-man defense, recovery bursts, explosive change-of-direction plays.
Lane Agility Drill
Measures: Multidirectional quickness and deceleration control.
Why It Matters: Identifies how fluidly and efficiently an athlete moves side-to-side and resets posture.
Training Focus: Lateral movement mechanics, joint control, proprioceptive balance.
Game Impact: Staying in front on defense, navigating traffic, sharp recovery angles.
Understanding Your MPI Score
Performance, Quantified.
Every result is benchmarked against a validated peer database. The result? A clear, percentile-based MPI Score: a composite number that reflects where an athlete stands in the three critical domains of performance. Portable. Shareable. Trustworthy.
Coaches understand it. Recruiters value it. Athletes use it to get better. Data turns potential into proof.
Why It Works
This isn’t just testing, it’s transformation.
When you remove the guesswork, you unlock real growth. When you bring elite methodology to youth athletes, you change the game.
And when you combine data + discipline + drive, you don’t just measure potential.
You build it.
